Just One Taste - Louisa Edwards
2010, St. Martin's Paperbacks, Recipe for Love #3
In short
He has a hungry mind
Bad-boy chef Wes Murphy dreads his final semester cooking class - Food Chemistry 101 - until he meets the new substitute teacher. Dr. Rosemary Wilkins is a feast for the eyes, though her approach to food is strictly academic. So Wes decides to rattle her Bunsen burner by asking for her hands-on advice - on aphrodisiacs...
She’s got love down to a science
Rosemary is a little wary about working with Wes, whose casual flirtations leave her hot under the collar. But once they begin testing the love-enhancing power of chocolate, oysters, and strawberries, it becomes scientifically evident that the brainy science nerd and the boyish chef have some major chemistry together - and it’s delicious...
In words
Overall I liked it, although not as well as the second book in the series. Nice to have a female nerd as the heroine for once. She reminded me of Bones at times. I'm not entirely sure I like the hero that much, although I can't pinpoint it, but they worked as a couple. The secondary romance also picks up again, which I liked. Oh, and there's an adorable pet. All in all a fast and enjoyable read and a great series I will certainly be rereading.

On the Steamy Side - Louisa Edwards
Publication
2010, St. Martin's Paperbacks, Recipe for Love #2
In short
She's never met a man so mouth-watering
When Lilah Jane Tunkle fled her dull life in Virginia for the bright lights of New York City, she didn’t expect to wind up a nanny to a gorgeous celebrity chef’s ten-year-old son. Working for the delectable Devon Sparks is a sure-fire recipe for disaster, especially after Lilah gets a tantalizing taste of his perfectly seasoned kisses...
And he can't resist her down-home spice
Devon’s not sure he can handle one more surprise ingredient in his life - he quit his popular TV show, his culinary reputation is on the line, and now the son he barely knows is back for seconds. Lilah’s Southern sass is supposed to keep the boy in line, but soon enough she’s teaching Devon a thing or two about homespun food... and turning up the heat.
In words
I liked this book even better than the first one in the series, mainly because of the main couple. I believed in their romance and found the struggle by Devon, his doubts and his reactions to it, very believable. As to the secondary couple, I'm still not sure if it was absolutely necessary to have them break up. Usually I don't like this at all - book 1 they get together, book 2 break, book 3 together again, just to fill the pages it seems - but in this case I give it the benefit of the doubt. All characters are interesting and believable, lifelike. And I really like the voice of this author.

Can't Stand the Heat - Louisa Edwards
Publication
2009, St. Martin's Paperbacks, Recipe for Love #1
In short
She’s hungry for experience
For sharp-tongued Miranda Wake, the chance to spend a month in Adam Temple’s kitchen to write an exposé is a journalistic dream come true. Surely Miranda can find a way to cut the hotshot chef down to size once she learns what really goes on at his trendy Manhattan restaurant. The trouble is, she never expected Adam to find out her most embarrassing secret: this critic has no idea how to cook.
And he knows just how to satisfy her cravings...
As for Adam, well, he’s not about to have his reputation burned by a critic who doesn’t even know the difference between poaching and paring. He’ll just have to give the tempting redhead a few private lessons of his own - teaching Miranda what it means to cook with passion.
In words
I found the main couple interesting, but was equally interested in the secondary romance and all the other characters in and around the kitchen. The only thing I did not like as much was the public grovel by the heroine and the quick acceptance of the hero. Personally I thought she was forgiven too easily for what she had done. Overall a great debut and I'm really looking forward to reading more books by Louisa Edwards.

Bound by Your Touch - Meredith Duran
Publication
Pocket Books, July 2009
In short
Silver-tongued Viscount Sanburne is London's favorite scapegrace. Alas, Lydia Boyce has no interest in being charmed. When his latest escapade exposes a plot to ruin her family, she vows to handle it herself, as she always has done. Certainly she requires no help from a too-handsome dilettante whose main achievement is being scandalous. But Sanburne's golden charisma masks a sharper mind and darker history than she realizes. He shocks Lydia by breaking past her prim facade to the woman beneath... and the hidden fire no man has ever recognized. But as she follows him into a world of intrigue, she will learn that the greatest danger lies within - in the shadowy, secret motives of his heart.
In words
It took me a little while to get into this book. I found Sanburne a bit hard to like at first, as I thought he took his feelings of guilt a bit to far, which probably was the purpose of the author. But in the end I did understand and like him, and believed in their HEA. All characters are full of depth, even the not so nice ones, and the story itself sucked me in as well. Again a great book by Meredith Duran.

The Tempation of Savannah O'Neill - Molly O'Keefe
Publication
Harlequin, August 2010, The Notorious O'Neills # 1
In short
A family's bad reputation is tough to shake off. Just ask Savannah O'Neill. Despite her straitlaced job as a librarian, despite her living a private life, the O'Neill family wildness still sparks town gossip. And the arrival of Matt Woods - sexy handyman and complete stranger - isn't helping.
Watching him work makes Savannah long to take a trip into indulgence. That's so not a good idea - she's been there before and still hears the rumors. But Matt is much too delicious for this O'Neill to resist. It's a shame there's more to Matt than being good with his hands. Because when his true reasons for seeking her out are revealed, he could become another affair Savannah lives to regret.
In words
Years ago I enjoyed Molly O'Keefe's books but somehow she disappeared off my radar. After hearing so many good things about this series I reread some older books first and then dove into this series. Well, Molly won't be off my radar from now on. I enjoyed this book so much. Great characters and so life-like. It was so easy to understand what they were feeling, why and how they were influenced by their past, and how they came to terms with it. This series book has more depth than many a single title. I recommend it wholeheartedly and look forward to reading the other books in this series.

Presumed Guilty - Tess Gerritsen
Publication
1993 but reissued, Harlequin
In short
Miranda's ex-lover is found murdered. She had a motive and the opportunity. After being arrested for the crime, Miranda is shocked to learn she's been released on bail - bail posted by someone determined to remain anonymous. Is someone trying to help Miranda? Or is someone trying to manipulate Miranda and draw her into the dark and secret world of a murdered man, where everybody's presumed guilty?
In words
Utterly stupid, sorry to say. All characters are cardboard and the relationship between the main characters is based on nothing because he doesn't trust her until the very last moment, when it becomes clear she is innocent. I wouldn't want a partner like that. I couldn't understand why she wanted to get involved with him at all. In the last part of the book the heroine behaves even more TSTL as she sets out to corrupt/steal evidence that is supposed to prove her innocence (personally I don't see why the author of the letters HAS to be the killer). The villain also behaves TSTL by not turning the tables on the heroine at that moment.

Publication
1997, Avon, Capitol Theater #2
In short
Lady Madeline Matthews would rather shame herself than sacrifice her freedom - which is why, to avoid a marriage to an aging, lecherous lord, she seeks out the company of Logan Scott. A torrid affair with the notorious womanizer would surely condemn her in the eyes of good society.
Though a legend in the bedchamber, Logan is in truth an intensely private man tormented by past betrayals. Now a forward little minx is disrupting his life with her vibrant charm and unspoiled beauty, a high-spirited enchantress completely at sea in London’s sophisticated whirl. But when what begins with a kiss threatens to blossom into something more rapturous and real, will Logan and Madeline have the courage to drop the masks they hide behind in the name of love?
In words
After reading the first one in this series, I hoped I would like this one better and fortunately I did, although it still wasn't up to LK's usual standard, IMO. I was intrigued by Logan in the 1st book, but he didn't entirely live up to it in this book. Nice read, but nothing special.

Somewhere I'll Find You - Lisa Kleypas
1996, Avon, Capitol Theatre #1
In short
All London is at Julia Wentworth's feet. The beautiful, enchanting actress is the toast of the theatre world - and anything she desires is hers for the asking. But the incomparable leading lady guards a devastating secret: a mystery husband whom she does not know, dares not mention... and cannot love.
For years Damon Savage has been searching for the stranger his unscrupulous parents wed him to without his consent. Wanting no more than to be legally rid of the foolish chit, Damon is shocked to discover his ‘bride’ is the exquisite stage performer whom he intended to make his mistress! But though his wife by law, Julia will never truly be Damon's - until he conquers her fears, his formidable rivals... and the stellar lady's proud, independent heart.
In words
I'm in shock: I did not like it! That is to say, not as much as all the other LK books I've read. The plot was okay and the style was just as good as always. I think it's mainly because of Damon - I just couldn't like him and had no idea why he - suddenly it seems - decided he loved Julia. I don't believe in a HEA for them at all. I'm almost waiting for him to leave her or ask her to give up the theater after all..

Indulge - Nancy Warren
Publication
2006, Harlequin Blaze
In short
"Great in bed... A suit..." spa owner Mercedes Estevez wrote on J.D. McClary's business card after they broke up. Now the lawyer's card rested with many other men's in the glass "booty," all up for grabs by the female dating pool in Mercedes's building. It was a fun way to meet new men!
Except Mercedes drew J.D.'s card herself at the weekly booty call—and couldn't resist contacting him.
Fabulous in bed...summed up John Dennis's thoughts about his fling with Hurricane Mercedes. Which was the problem. Too often they indulged in dessert...instead of dinner. Instead of getting to know each other. Now he'd heeded her call, but had a whole new set of rules. Dates only, no sex. Nada. But with their explosive chemistry, how long could they last?
In wordsI like it that the couple already had a sexual relationship in the past and that they get to know each other this time. Mercedes is someone I cannot relate to somehow, but she didn't get on my nerves. Not a spectacular plot or book, but well-written, a fast read and a believable relationship and HEA. Again, Nancy Warren delivered for me. Just one note: the cover (a cake) has nothing to do with the story.

Mysterious Millionaire - Cassie Miles
2008, Harlequin Intrigue
In short
Liz Norton's part - time P.I. gigs were run-of-the-mill custody disputes - until she went undercover on the wealthy Crawford estate. Posing as an unobtrusive housekeeper in what was supposed to be a routine case, she soon found herself in serious danger. But with a dead body on her hands and feuding relatives pointing fingers, the only one she could turn to was Ben Crawford - an enigmatic, single father fighting to keep his young daughter. Except joining forces with the ruggedly handsome businessman only made her yearn to drop the charade, which could prove fatal, with a killer prowling the darkest corners of the mansion...
In words
At first it was okay. Then some things became a bit illogical, e.g. people drawing weird conclusions. When the hero started behaving strangely and stupid at 2/3rds of the book, followed by the heroine, I tried the last two chapters and decided not to bother with the rest.

The Missing Millionaire - Dani Sinclair
Publication
2008, Harlequin Intrigue
In short
Sexy, enigmatic entrepreneur Harrison Trent had secrets. And Jamie Bellman knew the biggest one - his current whereabouts. Because she'd kidnapped him.
Ordinarily the multimillionaire wouldn't object to being held captive by a beautiful woman, but the mysterious Jamie had another thing coming if she thought he would submit to her demands.
Going missing was the perfect ploy since Harrison's many secrets - and enemies - were coming back to threaten his life. But when a determined killer targeted them both, Harrison knew he had to make Jamie reveal her motives and who she really was.even if he had to kiss her senseless to find the truth.
In words
The plot is pretty fast moving, with lots of things happening. Maybe too many things even. In most romantic suspense novels the emphasis is on the romance, but in this case the scales tip the other way and I would have like to see a bit more romance, or even interaction between the main characters. They did not get to know each other, and therefore I didn't get to know them either, which IMO makes them and the whole book forgettable. I also think the hero was made a millionaire to lure readers as it doesn't add anything to the story. He could have been anyone.

Born in Shame - Nora Roberts
1996, Jove, Born In Trilogy #3
In short
Shannon Bodine is a talented graphic artist whose life revolves around her job at a prestigious New York advertising agency. Her world is turned upside down when she learns the identity of her real father: Thomas Concannon. Respecting her late mother’s wish, Shannon travels, however reluctantly, to County Clare. There, her loneliness and shame melt away in the embrace of the family she never kew existed. And amid the lush Irish landscape, steeped in mysticism and legend, she discovers the possibility of a love that is meant to be.
In words
It feels as if you're visiting Ireland in this trilogy and I reread it every 2 years or so. Regarding the titles, I can hardly think of another trilogy with such apt titles regarding contents. Unfortunately this is the weakest book of the three, even though it's still a nice book to read. It's just that the first two have such strong and distinct characters and Shannon and Murphy seem very nice, and very ordinary. The mystery element is there, but not strongly present. Still... a very nice book. Personally I think that's the problem with Nora Roberts: she has written so many books that you start comparing her with herself instead of other people...

The attraction and connection between Rogan and Maggie is powerful and believable. They're one of my favorite romance couples. Never Lie to a Lady - Liz Carlyle
2007, Pocket Books
In short
The notorious Marquis of Nash is a creature of the night; his wealth and his title provide but a tenuous entrée into polite society. With his Eastern European manners and dark elegance, Nash tempts women even as he tempts the scandalmongers. Rumors abound of the men he has bankrupted and the hearts he has broken. But when Nash leaves his lair for a rare foray into the ton, and enjoys a moment of heated passion with a mysterious lady in the dark, he develops an obsession which will lead him into the hellish world of smugglers, spies, and political intrigue as the Continent edges nearer to war.
Xanthia Neville has arrived in London to expand her family’s most lucrative business holding - Neville Shipping. With her brother Rothewell all too happy to waste his life in debauchery, Xanthia opens up shop in London’s grimy Docklands, and sets about expanding the family fortune, all the while flaunting the ton’s silly strictures about how a lady ought to behave. But London, she soon learns, is not Barbados. And when the British Government approaches Rothewell to ask the family’s help in exposing a dangerous arms dealer, Xanthia must enter society after all, only to find her loyalties torn. Someone in London is fueling the conflict on the Balkan Peninsula by smuggling illicit weapons into the Aegean - and there is only one likely suspect. The Marquis of Nash has the resources, the contacts and, quite possibly, the deeply divided loyalties. But can Xanthia’s subterfuge prove him a traitor to the Crown before her heart is broken?
In words
After enjoying several other novels by Liz Carlyle I was sadly disappointed by this one. There were a few plot points which I found a bit hard to believe but - worse - the whole book seemed stand-offish, I could not feel a connection with anyone or the story, even though the plot itself was alright. I did get to know Xanthia a bit, but Nash not at all and therefore can't truly believe in their relationship. A certain sex scene makes this book a 'hot' one, but to me it felt totally out of place and almost turned it into a D-. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, it's not a bad book, but it just doesn't work for me.

In words
Well, I found a new author to glom. This was not my first erotic or really hot romantic suspense, but this was the first time I truly enjoyed reading an erotic book. I believed in the characters and their relationship and am convinced of their HEA. For years, Melisande Fleming has loved Lord Vale from afar... watching him seduce a succession of lovers, and once, catching a glimpse of heartbreaking depths beneath his roguish veneer. When he’s jilted on his wedding day, she boldly offers to be his.
TO THE ONE WOMAN HE MOST DESIRES
Vale gladly weds Melisande, if only to produce an heir. But he’s pleasantly surprised: A shy and proper Lady by day, she’s a wanton at night, giving him her body - though not her heart.
IS HIS DEEPEST NEED...
Determined to learn her secrets, this sinner starts to woo his seductive new wife - while hiding the nightmares from his soldiering days in the Colonies that still haunt him. Yet when a deadly betrayal from the past threatens to tear them apart, Lord Vale must bare his soul to the woman he married... or risk losing her forever.
In words
Again a seriously tortured hero. So far this series is like a relay race where the batons are smoothly handed over to the next runner, without being dropped or rudely smacked into the next hand: from heroine to heroine (the fairy tale book), from hero to hero (discovering who the real traitor was), and from villain to villain. I want to pace myself and not read the books too soon after one another, but I'm not sure how long I can hold out - I wanted to get started on the next one straight after finishing this one.

Still, as desire grows between them, an enemy lurks in the shadows. Now if Harry wants to keep Poppy by his side, he must forge a true union of body and soul, once and for all...

Harry is now one of my favorite heroes, he is portrayed wonderfully. The one quibble I have with this book is Poppy, who somehow remained a bit flat. The book is full of humor, amongst others because of various animals. The other Hathaways are of course also present, but in a pleasant way.

Or that Mr. Moviestar is getting a bit too close to his best friend, Alyssa Halloway. But, damn it all, he's jealous to the point of distraction whenever he sees them together! Her passionate kisses made him fall in love thirteen years ago, only for her to turn around and break his teenage heart by leaving town. In fact, she's the reason he vowed to be a confirmed bachelor! Now pregnant, Kate is back in Montana to deliver her baby, claiming her wanderlust days are over. And Billy can't help wonder if his vow was a bit too hasty....
In words
I've reread these books several times now. I can't pinpoint exactly why I like them so much, but they are a comfort read to me. The characters are great, the relationships are believable and the writing is just plain fun. I plan on checking out more books by this author in the (near) future.

Dark Prince - Christine Feehan
1999, Love Spell/Leisure, Carpathians # 1
In short
Prince of the Night
He came to her in the night, a predator - strength and power chiseled his features. The seduction was deep and elemental; he affected her soul. His need. His darkness. His terrible haunting loneliness. Her senses aroused, she craved the dangerous force of his body. Burned for him. And he had only touched her with his mind.
Lady of the Light
She came to him at dawn, his bleakest hour. As the beast raged inside him, threatening to consume him, he vented his centuries-old despair in an anguished cry that filled the waning night. And she answered, a ray of light, piercing his darkness. A beautiful angel. Her compassion, courage, and innocence awakened in him an exquisite longing and tenderness. He knew he must possess her, for only she could tame his savage side and lift the dark shadow from his soul. Apart they were desolate, bereft. Intertwined physically and spiritually, they could heal one another and experience an eternity of nights filled with love.
In words
It was a struggle to finish. After reading three of her books, I must conclude Christine Feehan just isn't my cup of tea. Didn't like the couple: they are a couple almost from the start of the book and there is no romance or development of their relationship whatsoever, and you do not get to know either of them as a person. Didn't like the plot: because apart from the last 40 pages or so there is no plot. Didn't like the voice: too many repetitions, too many adjectives and bordering on purple prose at times. Frankly, I found the whole thing boring and it would have been a DNF if I hadn't wanted to do a review.

Nothing very special about it, but also nothing wrong with it. It is just a very enjoyable read.

In short
The day Navajo journalist Katherine James met Gabriel Rossiter the earth literally moved beneath her feet. Nearly killed in a rockslide while hiking, she found her life in the tall park ranger's hands. Although she can't forget him, she thinks she'll never see him again. She is crushed when she recognizes her rescuer among the law enforcement officers raiding a sweat lodge ceremony one night, throwing her and her friends of Mesa Butte, land they consider sacred.
Gabe long ago swore he would never again lose himself to a woman - not even one with long dark hair and big eyes that seem to see right through him. But from the moment he first sees Kat, the attraction he feels is undeniable. Appalled by what he has been ordered to do, he's determined to get to the bottom of recent events at Mesa Butte - and to keep Kat safe.
But asking questions can be dangerous - almost as dangerous as risking one's heart. And soon Kat and Gabe's passion for the truth - and each other - makes them targets for those who would do anything, even kill, to keep Native Americans off their sacred land...
In words
This was my first book by Pamela Clare and it certainly won't be the last. I wanted to start all over again right after finishing it. The writing is wonderful, I couldn't put it down. The characters were great and memorable. This is a true romantic suspense - both the romance and the suspense were great, and that doesn't happen often. If you like romantic suspense, this is a must.

In short
Cilla McGowan, a former child star, has found a more satisfying life restoring homes. So she comes to Virginia's Shenandoah Valley to save the dilapidated farmhouse that once belonged to her grandmother - a legendary actress who died of an overdose more than thirty years ago.
Plunging into the project with gusto, Cilla's almost too busy and exhausted to notice her neighbor, graphic novelist Ford Sawyer. Determined not to carry on the family tradition of ill-fated romances, Cilla steels herself against Ford's quirky charm, though she can't help indulging in a little fantasy.
But it's reality that holds its share of dangers for Cilla. A cache of unsigned letters found in the attic points to a mysterious romance in her grandmother's life - and may be the catalyst for a frightening, violent assault. And if Cilla and Ford are unable to sort out who is targeting her and why, she may, like her world-famous grandmother, be cut down in the prime of her life.
In words
Nice read, but NR has so many great books that I found this one average. Especially Cilla's character seemed to be a bit flat - I couldn't warm up to her. For my taste, there could have been a few more sex scenes. As always, the hero is memorable. NR writes her hero's so well, especially the beta-types like Sawyer. His dog is equally adorable and not at all too fantastic - if you have ever been the proud owner of an equally weird dog.

Miss Wonderful - Loretta Chase
Publication
2004, Carsington Brothers #1
In short
Alistair Carsington really, really wishes he didn’t love women quite so much. To escape his worst impulses, he sets out for a place far from civilization: Derbyshire - in winter! - where he hopes to kill two birds with one stone: avoid all temptation, and repay the friend who saved his life on the fields of Waterloo. But this noble aim drops him straight into opposition with Miss Mirabel Oldridge, a woman every bit as intelligent, obstinate, and devious as he - and maddeningly irresistible.
Mirabel Oldridge already has her hands full keeping her brilliant and aggravatingly eccentric father out of trouble. The last thing she needs is a stunningly attractive, oversensitive and overbright aristocrat reminding her she has a heart - not to mention a body he claims is so unstylishly clothed that undressing her is practically a civic duty.
Could the situation be any worse? And why does something that seems so wrong feel so very wonderful?
In words
What a wonderful book. I think the way Alistair tries to deal with his war trauma - his obsession with clothes - is so cleverly written. The relationship between Alistair and Mirabel is so believable. Part of the plot (about the steward) could have been left out, but the entire book is so good and rich - great characters, humor, witty conversations - that I simply don't care. As a whole, the Carsingtons are one of my favorite series and I reread them every year.

Not Quite a Lady - Loretta Chase
Publication
May 2007, Avon Historical Romance, 978-0-06-123123-0
Carsington Brothers #4
In short
Darius Carsington is a spectacularly handsome rake with a rare intelligence and no heart, a man who divides his time between bedding loose-moralled women and writing scholarly papers. He finds society's “perfect darlings”... exceedingly boring. But there’s something intriguing, and not quite perfect, about faultless Lady Charlotte Hayward. He senses a crack under her polished surface, and finding it is a temptation he can’t resist.
IMMOVABLE OBJECT
Lady Charlotte is so beautiful, charming, and gracious that no one has noticed what an expert she is at Not Getting Married. Early on, she learned a painful lesson about trust... and temptation. In the years since, she’s devoted her life to all she ought to be - and she’s not about to let a man like Carsington entice her to do everything she shouldn’t.
A SPLENDID COLLISION
But the laws of attraction can easily overpower the rules of manners and morals, and sometimes even the best-behaved girl has to follow her instincts, even if it means risking it all.
I have no idea what it is with this one compared to the other three in the series, but it is lacking something for me. The biggest problem I have is with Darius: I cannot seem to 'get' him. His character, his person remains somewhat unclear to me and therefore the romance seems to be suffering too. For the rest, again great writing and humor.

In short
Free-spirited Zoey Addler is about to hijack a federal agent. And not just any federal agent, but very Special Agent Dante Torelli, a man whose designer suits and Italian shoes are more GQ than FBI. But when her baby niece, Pete, is snatched right in front of her eyes, Zoey doesn't hesitate to scramble into Dante's spotless BMW. She needs his help to rescue the baby... if only she can ignore his Lips of Sin.
Oh, Baby!
Dante's original mission is down the drain and he's dodging bullets with a loopy redhead by his side. He likes quiet. She never shuts up. He likes to follow the rules. She throws the rules out of the window. But these opposites do more than attract - they ignite. With a henpecked hit man running wild, cooking-obsessed matrons chasing down contraband spices, and a relentless killer tracking them all, Dante and Zoey will risk everything - for themselves and...
for the love of Pete
This was a fun read, I want more. The voice is very different from the author's Elizabeth Hoyt voice and IMO should not be compared to it, but I guess some readers do so anyway, hence the many so-so reviews. The book is full of action, humor and weird characters, but never over the top. I usually don't like epilogues, but this book's last chapter, featuring two of the supporting cast, is one I will remember. I know I will reread this book when I can use some cheering up. Oh, and I love the cover!

IDEAL
The heir to the Earl of Hargate, Benedict Carsington, Viscount Rathbourne, is the perfect aristocrat. Tall, dark, and handsome, he is known for his impeccable manners and good breeding. Benedict knows all the rules and has no trouble following them - until she enters his life...
INFAMOUS
Bathsheba Wingate belongs to the rotten branch of the DeLucey family: a notorious lot of liars, frauds, and swindlers. Small wonder her husband’s high-born family disowned him. Now widowed, she’s determined to give her daughter a stable life and a proper upbringing. Nothing and no one will disrupt Bathsheba’s plans - until he enters her life…
SCANDALOUS
Then Bathsheba’s hoyden daughter lures Benedict’s precocious nephew into a quest for a legendary treasure. To recover the would-be knights errant, Benedict and Bathsheba must embark on a rescue mission that puts them in dangerous, intimate proximity - a situation virtually guaranteed to end in mayhem - even scandal! - if anyone else were involved. But Benedict is in perfect control of events. Perfect control, despite his mad desire to break all the rules. Perfect control. Really.
Usually I don't like romances with children playing a large role, but this is one of the very few exceptions. Again, a book full of great humor, witty conversations, and wonderful characters. I fully believe in the relationship between Batsheba and Benedict, and how they interact with the children. And this is also one of the few 'road regencies' I've read.

Nothing But Trouble - Rachel Gibson
Publication
May 2010, Harper Collins, 9780061579097
Chinooks Hockey Team #5
In short
TROUBLE...
Chelsea Ross's acting career has been a total bust. The closest she ever came to stardom was her brilliant performance as "Pretty Dead Girl #1." But leaving Hollywood to become the personal assistant to a famous hockey player could be her stupidest career move ever.
MORE TROUBLE...
Injured superstar Mark Bressler's glory days are over. The one time bad boy jock could at least be civil to the pint-sized, pink-haired bombshell who the Seattle Chinooks hired to be his P.A. If Chelsea didn't need the money, she'd be skating away from the world's biggest jerk-on-ice as fast as her feet could carry her.
BIG TROUBLE!
Chelsea can deal with Mark's rotten attitude and dark moods. The problem is those biceps and that red-hot hockey-toned bod! And when the bad boy starts to put the moves on her, Chelsea knows it's time she banished him to the penalty box...if only she could resist the kind of trouble he has in mind!
Enjoyable and fast read, but not that special. This was my first book by Rachel Gibson. I don't know anything about ice hockey and had expected a lot more about it, but hardly any mention was made. I felt for Mark, having the bottom knocked out of his world. I couldn't warm up to Chelsea. Oh, and I almost substracted 1 point for the large amount of typos and missing words!

Carsington Brothers #2

IMPOSSIBLE...
Rupert Carsington, fourth son of the Earl of Hargate, is his aristocratic family's favorite disaster. He is irresistibly handsome, shockingly masculine, and irretrievably reckless, and wherever he goes, trouble follows. Still, Rupert's never met an entanglement - emotional or other - he couldn't escape. Until now.
OUTRAGEOUS...
Now he's in Egypt, stranded in the depths of Cairo's most infamous prison, and his only way out is accepting a beautiful widow's dangerous proposal. Scholar Daphne Pembroke wants him to rescue her brother, who's been kidnapped by a rival seeking a fabled treasure. Their partnership is strictly business: she'll provide the brains, he, the brawn. Simple enough in theory.
INEVITABLE...
Blame it on the sun or the blazing desert heat, but as tensions flare and inhibitions melt, the most disciplined of women and the most reckless of men are about to clash in the most impossibly irresistible way.
In words
One of the best heroes ever written, IMO. When you finish a book and want to reread it straightaway, it's a winner. I cannot get enough of this book, so I wanted to start my blog with it. It is full of great humor, has witty conversations, all characters are wonderfully written and I fully believe in the relationship between Daphne and Rupert. And how nice to have a story that's completely set in Egypt.
